Welcome to the 2013 Nerdy Non-Fiction Challenge!!
(scroll down to join the challenge or link your reviews)
Last year I got the urge to read more non-fiction books after all that dystopian and fantasy I read, so I created this challenge to help motivate me to do just that in 2013.
If you want to participate, feel free. If there's another non-fiction challenge going on that you would rather do, then go for it! My goal here is really just to encourage you all to read more non-fiction this year. I'm hoping to pick at least 10 of the categories and read both an adult and a children's book in each category. We'll see how it goes.
GUIDELINES
Levels:
Geek: 4-6 books in at least 2-3 different categories
Dork: 7-10 books in at least 4-5 different categories

* It is not necessary to pick your categories ahead of time, but try not to read more than two books in each category so you can broaden your horizons.
* The categories I listed are just suggestions. If you have a different category you'd like to add, let me know!
* When you write about the challenge or read/review a book, come back here and link up or leave a comment and tell me what you read and what you thought of it.
* If you're participating in a different non-fiction challenge, please feel free to still link up. It's always fun to see what other people have read in the different non-fiction categories.
Happy reading (and learning)!

This is so fun! I need to look at getting more time to read into my schedule. :)
ReplyDeleteexactly what I need! I'm planning to read more non-fiction books in 2013 as well. :D
ReplyDeleteGreat! Thanks for joining the challenge!
DeleteSounds like lots of fun! I plan to finish as a Dweeb, reading 14 books, 7 categories, 1 adult and 1 juvenile book in each of my chosen categories.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I'm going to read 1 adult and 1 juvenile in each category too. It should be fun.
DeleteHave moved up to NERD level, adding on 1 more category, with 2 more titles.
DeleteHeck yeah!
DeleteReady to rock the nonfiction books! This is going to take a sizeable chunk out of my TBR pile. Thanks for hosting and Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteYou too! Thanks for joining Deondra.
DeleteI have a huge to be read nonfiction pile so I'm going for Nerd. I also plan on fitting in some juvenile nonfiction during reading time with my boys.
ReplyDeleteGreat plan! I'm going to do the same and add some juvenile nonfiction as well.
DeleteIn 2013 my goal is to increase my reading along with my knitting, so I hope audiobooks are OK? For some reason I've been really enjoying non-fiction in this format.
ReplyDeleteYes! Audiobooks are totally okay.
DeleteAlso, I'd love to include books in the Humor/Trivia category such as Mental Floss or Uncle John's Readers. They are substantial books with meaty articles full of great information. Would these qualify?
DeleteThanks again for hosting and letting me bug you with my questions!
Totally! I'd count those. They be great choices! :)
DeleteThank you so much for hosting this! I'm signing-up for 15!

Sweet- thanks Kim!
DeleteI'm going for Dork Level. My blog is in limbo right now, so I've got this being tracked on a Pinterest Pin, and that's what I linked to. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds great. I'll check your board out. Thanks for joining!
DeleteI'm starting at the Geek level, but I hope to well exceed it by the end of the year.
ReplyDeleteNice! I start at lower levels too with the hopes of exceeding them.
DeleteGoing for the geek level to sort of ease into more non-fiction. :-) http://alyshadeshae.com/2013/01/03/entry-nerdy-non-fiction-challenge-2013/
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Thanks for joining Alysha.
DeleteI'm going for the Geek Level. See if I can upgrade.
ReplyDeleteMy 1st reading in 2013: an autobiography

An autobiography is a great place to start. That's what I did. I think it's a good way to easy in to non-fiction. I plan to start low and upgrade as I go along as well.
DeleteGreat challenge idea! I'm in for being a Geek! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat! Thanks for joining us Pamela!
DeleteI'm not a Nerd - but for the purposes of this challenge, I am donning the badge!
ReplyDeleteSo happy to have found you! Thrilled to participate - look forward to getting to know you in the upcoming year!

:) So glad you're joining! I look forward to getting to know you better this year as well!
DeleteHi, visiting via This Fleeting Dream, and via the TBR double dare challenge. This one sounds interesting. I do read some non fiction and have just completed one biography/philosophy but it was started last year. I have several things in mind I want to tackle and this challenge is a good incentive
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing
martine
Awesome! Thanks for participating.
DeleteSo glad I found your site and this challenge!! I'm really looking forward to knocking out several of these categories =) Thanks for hosting!!
ReplyDeleteYay! Thanks for joining the challenge.
DeleteI just finished a book on writing/being a writer and I'm not sure what category that would fall under or if a new one should be created. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking a new category should be created.
DeleteCould I skip reading in different categories and just read memoirs?
ReplyDeleteMost definitely! If that's your jive, go for it!
DeleteNice challenge. I will be signing in a bit late, but since I read a good amount of nonfiction, I think I can go for it. I did notice that "education" (as in books about teaching, about the educational endeavor, higher ed., so on) and library and information sciences (LIS) are not listed above, so I am suggesting them. I know I will probably have a book or two on those categories. Thanks for this. Looking forward to seeing what else others read as well.
ReplyDeleteBest, and keep on blogging.
Welcome and great suggestions!
DeleteHey Kim, I submitted my last two links badly. One of them is in the challenge list and the other link (#46) links to the wrong page. Sorry about that! If you could please remove those, I'll resubmit my link again. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, my challenge is going very well and I've already exceeded my usual amount of nonfic books. :)
Have a good day!
Hi Athena. Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you! I removed those links so you can resubmit. I hope I removed the right ones! Thanks for participating in the challenge!
